Letter to CongressmenFeb. 25, 2003 Dear honorable member of Congress:I am writing this letter to express my strongest protest against the illegal kidnapping and sentence to life of Christian democracy and human rights leader Dr. Bingzhang Wang, a US national, by People's Republic of China on February 10, 2003. I am also disappointed by State Department's inadequate assistance to Dr. Wang in this mysterious kidnapping and surprising charge of "espionage" and "terrorism". The totalitarian regime in Beijing is setting a precedent where it could kidnap and charge pro-democracy leaders with similar "crimes" in anticipation of no strong protest and condemnation from leaders of America. I sincerely and respectfully request you to look into this serious matter of international crimes conducted by Chinese communist terrorism regime and express your support of the democracy cause and Dr. Wang Bingzhang at various occasions possible. Here is a letter which Brother Wang was apparently able to compose from his sentence of life incarceration in China, and reading between the lines one can see that he was not kidnapped by ordinary thugs from Vietnam to China but rather brought by Chinese government thugs illegally from Vietnam to China. Since the State Department has repeatedly refused to review the existing federal case law on the statutory definitions of a non-citizen national and their applicability to Brother Wang, we beseech your good offices to extend your precious support in this matter.
I would also like to respectfully request your office to hold emergency hearings on the matters where family members and two other victims of this international kidnapping would be most willing to deliver all the available intelligence and related information. Free China Movement and several witnesses have gathered vast amount of evidence concerning the events surrounding Brother Wang's unlawful kidnapping from Vietnam by Chinese agents. The recent farcical no trial in Shenzhen near Hong Kong where Dr. Wang was denied access to US consuls, denied the right to present witnesses, denied the right to choose counsel (since he could only select from among the list pre-approved by the communist authorities), denied the right to cross-examine witnesses and testimony (his "counsel" received the case January 10 and had trial two weeks later with no preparation and no access to investigative resources at all).
Wang Bingzhang himself has weighed in. A letter to his family, dated February 8, was published by a Hong Kong newspaper. Here is what Dr. Wang had to say--
Family members, Hope you are all well, I am writing this brief note to let you know I am alive and well. Since entering China, my basic living needs have been met, the food and drink have been not bad, with sufficient nutrition, and my health has not failed dramatically. The agencies and officials in charge of my care have been most courteous, so mom and dad, and family, please do not worry. Also, with regards to the matter of my legal counsel. Both Min Yang and Chao Wen are independent lawyers in Guangzhou in private practice. The head of the Guangdong Province Bar Association, Yunhua Ci, met with me in person, and presented a list of recommended counsel. From among those listed, I selected Min Yang and Chao Wen. They seem to be very responsible in exercising their duties as lawyers, and presented a defense of not guilty before the Court. Please repose your trust in their professionalism, and bring any matters under consideration to their attention for discussion. My legal fees should be paid according to the sums specified in the contract. As to my daily living routine, every day I pray to God. I trust, the Lord will protect us.
