To Mr. Fu Seng Zhang, Minister of Justice PRCGuifang and Junzhan WangJuly 2, 2004
Mr. Fu Seng Zhang Dear Mr. Zhang: We were devastated to learn on June 29 that our son, Dr. Bingzhang Wang, currently incarcerated at Beijiang Prison in Shaoguan, Guangdong, suffered a severe stroke on January 24. This horrifying news six months after the fact struck us like lightening, causing me to faint immediately. Our entire family is frightened by his deteriorating health, such that each day now seems like an eternity. Dr. Wang has a 20-year history of phlebitis, hepatitis, stomach infections, and most recently, pulmonary embolisms. After consultation with doctors in Canada, we understand that phlebitis and pulmonary embolism may result in stroke and death at any time. Every time I think of this, I am a nervous wreck, living every day and night in fear. I am 85 years old, already in poor health with heart condition and in need of constant oxygen treatment. My days are numbered, and I implore you to take pity on this mother to let me see my beloved son regain his health. Allow him seek medical care in the United States to save his life.
We respectfully request you, Mr. Zhang, to approve Dr. Wang's medical parole, for our son to return to our side, and for this 85 year-old mother to see her son one last time. You know the cruelest thing in this world is for a parent to bury a child, and I am terrified this will happen to us. I believe you are a loving and compassionate man, which is why you are the Minister of Department of Justice. I also know you have the power to fulfill my plea, so I implore you to grant this mother's final wish. Respectfully yours, Guifang and Junzhan Wang
